Desktop PENITI 2009

Sebagai kelanjutan dari proses adaptasi dan migrasi saya dari Windows menuju Linux, kali ini tanpa kesengajaan, PClinuxOS 2007 yang selama ini menjadi salah satu operating system penghias komputer Lab. SMAN 11 Surabaya yang telah ada update terbarunya berupa PCLinuxOS 2009, sedang mengalami proses modifikasi dan bermetamorfosis menjadi Official Operating System SMAN 11 Surabaya yang saya beri nama Peniti 2009.

Sebagai pemula Linux yang lebih familiar dengan tampilan GUI dengan KDE 3.5 sebagai desktop favorit, modifikasi yang saya lakukan bukanlah modifikasi ala para developer Linux. Sejujurnya, saya tidak familiar dengan mode command line interface (CLI) melalui terminal yang benar-benar powerful itu, saya melakukan semua modifikasi melalui synaptic manager yang menurut saya sangat memudahkan dalam proses add/remove program.

Desktop Opensuse 11.1

I don’t know why, before I try this OS, i haven’t found a satifisfied OS yet which is compatible with my laptop. For all computers in my laboratorium, I use dual operating system, Windows XP and PCLinuxOS 2007. Untill this time, there is no problems or mistakes.

Unfortunately, my laptop with low class specification is not compatible with PCLinuxOS. Some drivers and programs are not included in Live CD installer. I decided to try some Linux Distributions like Fedora 9, Ubuntu 8.10, Mandriva 10. But, wireless-fidelity driver does not work correctly. I’ve tried to install driver manually, but, its too difficult for me.

Finally, last month, in March, I got Open Suse DVD Installer with Extras which is part of linux magazine package. Soon, I install in my laptop, voilaaaaaa…, All drivers works correctly. Some programs can be installed via YaST. Now, my laptop has dual operating system, Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium and Open Suse 11.1.
